Soledad Córdoba (Avilés, 1977)
“I am interested in photography as a space for contemplation, a medium through which I can evoke emotions and experiences rooted in the personal yet amplified and expressed universally through a poetic language. Women are always the protagonists and guides in my work. Through performative self-referentiality, photography serves me as both a vital and symbolic document.
I conceive all my work as a grand project extended over time. Through symbolism, I delve into aspects that connect our bodies to the emotional and spiritual. It is a realm where beauty and the sinister are balanced, where the mystical and the earthly meet in a liminal space that fascinates me and serves as the foundation of my reflections.
The states of the soul, the transformations of the body, displaced identities devastated and reshaped by desires, fears, and pain—combined with the poetics of the landscape, the connection with the untamed nature in which we live, and the personal and familial spaces that are altered—are some of the themes present in my works. Currently, I am working from the transformative experience of motherhood, which simultaneously serves as a tribute to the creative woman, the primordial Eve, and the archetypal mother.”
