Mico Rabuñal (Arteixo, A Coruña, Spain, 1979)
The works of Mico Rabuñal stand out for their technical mastery and Pop influences. In the words of the sculptor himself, “I am inspired above all by the importance of emotional memory, sculpting in marble, granite and limestone a series of sculptures based on objects or “things” made by and for “men”, objects which, being common to all, have an individual connotation for each one, taking each spectator through a series of memories and sensations which were sometimes thought to be forgotten but which in the subconscious are rooted in a stony form. All my sculptures are mixed technique on direct carving, seeking in the polychromy of the material the greatest realism of the object portrayed, as I am not interested in portraying only for its aesthetics, I always try to give the work a discourse with a rehearsed dialogue, from a socio-political criticism, to any kind of human behavior and with a touch of humour. I find it very interesting to reach that part of the brain where emotions and memories are found, it is the most authentic phase of the human being and by definition the most sincere. Life without art would be life by photosynthesis. Art is part of our existence as human beings, it is as essential as breathing”.
Mico Rabuñal has made public sculptures such as the Mural for the Arteixo Town Hall, the stone monuments to the Parish Priest of Oseiro D. Pedro García Vázquez and the Parish Priest of Cerceda D. José Pena Tasende and the restoration and new sculptural intervention of the Plaza del Humor in A Coruña. He has also received prizes and mentions such as first place in the Burela Gallery Art Competition and finalist in the National Painting and Sculpture Competition of the City of Melilla. He has exhibited at the Malaga, Art Madrid, Estampa and Urvanity fairs, at the XII International Art Biennial no Morraz, at the Casa Ibañez Museum in Melilla and at the Sala Fórum Metropolitano in A Coruña, among others. In 2025 his work becomes part of the collection of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation after another successful edition of the Art Madrid fair and, in addition, his dual exhibition takes place in the gallery: Pursued Reality, Dismembered Reality.
